Gloria G. Schmeelk, 96, of Palm Coast, FL, passed away peacefully with the support of all of her children, on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.
Born on July 21, 1926, in Queens, NY, she was the daughter of the late Christian Schunk. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William L. Schmeelk, who passed in 2001.
Gloria attended Far Rockaway High in Far Rockaway, NY, where she lettered in diving. She was an accomplished woman who participated in various sports and became a skilled swimmer, water skier, bowler and golfer. Her creativity was often shown in her talents as a seamstress and bead worker. She was a bold, tenacious woman who’s most known as the Founder and CEO of Town & Country Pools, in Phillipsburg, NJ, which she began along with her husband, William, in 1959.
Gloria was a brave woman who faced many challenges, personally and in business, throughout her life and met them head on. She set an example for her family and others of what can be accomplished with hard work and dedication. She had a great passion for traveling around the world, visiting South America, Thailand, Norway and many more places and taking frequent cruises with her husband and others.
After her years of traveling, Zorro, her loyal Shih Tzu, became her side kick and constant companion.
She is loved deeply by her family and friends, who will hold her forever and always in their hearts.
Gloria is survived by her children: William C. Schmeelk and his wife, Beth, Irene E. Schmeelk-Kuehn, Richard Schmeelk and his wife, Leona, Linda Schmeelk and her husband, Joseph Tasco and Dawn Hart and her husband, Charles; her grandchildren: Laurissa, Brian, Jamie, Douglas, Jason, Jillian, Samantha, Dylan, William, Justin and Zachary and her great-grandchildren: Emilio, Marcelo, Liam, Alexander, Cammy, Heidi, Nicholas, Kylie, Meghan, Lily, Nathan, Caleb and Riley.
A Viewing is scheduled for Monday, December 19, 2022, from 8 to 10 AM at the Finegan Funeral Home, 302 Heckman Street, Phillipsburg, NJ, with a Funeral Service to immediately follow. The entombment will then be held at the Holy Apostles Mausoleum, Greenwich Township, NJ.
