James J. “Doc” Dougherty
James J. “Doc” Dougherty, a longtime resident of Alpha, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at the age of 87.
Jim was born October 7, 1935 to the late Thomas and Margaret Mahoney Dougherty.
He is survived by his grandchildren; John J. Durnin III and wife Aimee, Christine Deacon and husband Bob, Bridget Pastula and husband Matt, and Holly Merante and husband Terry. Great grandchildren are Chucky, Sasha, Bobby, Alex, Sophia, Stella, Gracie, Zachary, and Maggie, and one great-great grandchild, Riley. Additionally, he is survived by a brother, Thomas Dougherty Jr.
Jim was predeceased by his loving wife Grace, stepdaughter Marlene, and granddaughter Michele.
He entered the US Navy at the age of 17, proudly serving his country. Upon his honorable discharge, he went to work at Ingersoll Rand as a machinist, for 44 years. He was an avid baseball player, amongst other sports. He enjoyed playing golf, trips to Atlantic City, watching his favorite teams; Notre Dame football, the New York Football Giants and the New York Mets, attending a lot of home games.
Pops biggest joy in life was his family. He will be missed by all.
A calling hour will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2023, from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Finegan Funeral Home at 924 2nd Avenue in Alpha, NJ. A Memorial Service will then begin at 12:00 at the funeral home.
