Jean E. Hann, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother (Nan), and great-grandmother (Nawny), joined her late husband in heaven on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at the age of 95. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were privileged to be a part of her ninety-five years on earth.
Jean was born on April 29, 1928 in Hope, NJ, to Floyd and Mildred (West) Matlock. Jean embraced life on her terms as the oldest daughter and one of eleven children. In July 1947, she married the love of her life, Lewis K Hann. The two enjoyed 54 years of marriage until Lew passed in August 2001. In addition to her role as a homemaker, Jean worked at Chipman's mending stockings.
Jean is survived by her children; Deborah J. Mundy, of Nazareth, PA, Sandra J. Wyant and her husband, Harry, Jr., of Phillipsburg, NJ and Lewis D. Hann and his wife, Cynthia, of Phillipsburg, NJ, her seven grandchildren, her fourteen great-grandchildren, her brother, Dale Matlock, her sister, Joanne Gilbert, and her many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Jean was predeceased by her daughter, Lilly Hann, her Son-in-Law, John D. Mundy, her great-grandsons, Sebastian and Augustus Tampier, and many of her siblings.
Those that know Jean best know that Sunday afternoons were always dedicated to the races. As an avid stock car fan, she always ensured she would return home in time for the race. Jean's adventurous spirit extended to the Powder Puff Derby, where she fearlessly took to the wheel, demonstrating her personal determination and grit.
Throughout the years, Jean enjoyed spending the holidays and celebrations with family, gardening, dancing the polka and jitterbug with her siblings, monthly family breakfast dates, daily visits from her favorite granddogs, Cupcake and Sam, and dining out at her local favorite restaurants, Joe's Steak Shop and Jimmy's Hot Dogs. Jean always loved watching TV and keeping up with the latest newscasts. Her fondness for chocolate was legendary, as she always kept a giant box of Whitman's under her couch.
