John J. Coyle

John J. Coyle, 83, of Bath, PA passed away on March 1, 2024 after a short stay at St. Lukes Hospital, Bethlehem, Pa. Born September 27, 1940, at the home of his predeceased parents, William and Catherine Coyle, in Phillipsburg, NJ. He is survived by his wife Linda Horton Coyle. They were married 51 yrs.  Linda called him one of the many, Happiest Man on Earth.

He loved his Savior Jesus Christ, wife, and 4 sons, their spouses and grandchildren, and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He enjoyed being with his family, friends and co – workers.  He adored his wife and told her everyday that he loved her and that she was so beautiful.

 He also was survived by 4 sons and their spouses; John P. Coyle and wife Christine, Danielsville, Pa, Stephen Coyle and wife LaDonna, Fort Payne, Alabama, Dr. Michael Coyle and wife Laura, Pace, Florida, and Aaron P. Coyle and wife Erin of Allentown, Pa. Grandchildren are Heather, Robert, Christina, Nathan, Abby, John, Noah, Lily, Declan, David, Sarah, Tyler and Ethan. Great Grandchildren are Alex, Braxon, Zack, Madison, Natlie, Mckenz. He is also survived by a brother, William Coyle and wife Bernice.

John enlisted in the Navy immediately after graduation from Phillipsburg High School.  He served our country for 4 years on the air craft carrier USS WASP CVS-18. He was employed by Murdough Shoes Co for 30 years. District Manager for many stores throughout the Lehigh Valley. He worked as a Realtor and Broker for Century 21 McPeek, Easton, Pa He achieved many awards and reached the Million Dollar Sales Award. When he retired from selling real estate, he worked part time in the appliance department at Home Depot, Bethlehem, Pa. and sometimes he welcomed customer at the door. John was part owner with his wife, Linda, at Kids at Work, Inc. NJ Licensed Child Care Center in Phillipsburg, NJ for 28 years.

He was a member of St. John’s Church, Chambers Street, Phillipsburg, NJ.  He was honored with the Church Person of the Year Award.  He was president of the Church Council, taught Holy Communion class and weekly Sunday School classes. The last 16 years John was a parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Santee Rd, Bethlehem, Pa. John was a Eucharist Minister for 7 years, He worked the carnivals and was always the person selling the chances to win a car. God gave him the gift of being an outstanding salesman.

John coached football, baseball and girls’ basketball for the Firthtown Boys Club, called the Falcons. He played on the first baseball team for Firthtown in the last 40’s.

He was a Yankees Baseball fan since he was 3 yrs. old.  He would visit his grandfather that lived in Fairlawn, NJ.  His grandfather would take him to Yankee Stadium to see the Yanks play.

He loved to watch Notre Dame college football and girls’ basketball. He is fan of the Washington Red Skins. He won pool tournaments, boxed, golfed, played tennis, and was a catcher on a men’s softball team. In addition, he skied, bowled, and did archery in a league in Allentown during his lifetime. He was a member of the local Pigeon Racing Club and raced pigeons from his home in Phillipsburg, NJ.  

A Calling hour will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 as at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 3219 Santee Road in Bethlehem, PA, with a Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 am at the church. The Finegan Funeral Homes of Phillipsburg and Alpha are handling arrangements.  

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Memorial Fund.
