Leta M. (Lee) Mendelsohn, 91, of Alpha, NJ, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2023.
Born on February 10, 1932, in The Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius and Marie (Lawrence) Brons. Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. Mendelsohn, who passed in 2002.
Lee worked as a telephone operator and receptionist, was the leader of Girl Scout Troop 278 in Alpha for 24 years, a Girl Scout Neighborhood Chairman for 6 years, a first aid instructor and the first woman on the Alpha Police Auxiliary. Lee served on the PTA Executive board and the Alpha Athletic Association, she was a member of the Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church, delivered meals on wheels for 6 years, served as a coordinator for two of those years and volunteered at Norwescap.
Lee is survived by her son, John Burns, her sister, Joyce Morris, her nephews, Glen Brons and Wesley Morris, her nieces, June Badalis and Diana Bruno, her many grandchildren and her even more great grandchildren, but she had a special relationship with Briannah, Jenaette, Bella and Sean. In addition to her husband and parents, Lee was predeceased by her daughter, Jane Audrey, who passed in 1971 and her step-daughter, Debbie Fiedler.
A Graveside Service is scheduled for 11 AM, on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at The United Presbyterian Cemetery, 5th Avenue, Alpha, NJ.
