Veronica M. Hudy, of Alpha, died peacefully Dec. 30 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Warren Campus in Phillipsburg after a brief illness. She was 92.
A lifelong Alpha resident, Veronica – Ronnie, to those who knew her best – was a daughter of the late Julius Sr. and Anna (Magyar) Hudy. The youngest of 10 siblings, Ronnie delighted in sharing stories from growing up and sharing a small Sigsbee Avenue home with such a large family.
She was an officer of the Phillipsburg High School class of 1948.
She worked at Wells Fargo Bank, formerly Easton Bank and Trust, from which she retired. Ronnie was a longtime volunteer for Miller Blood Bank and the election board.
A member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Alpha, faith was a driving force in Ronnie’s life. She was a past president of the church’s Golden Age Club. Even after she was unable to attend services in person, she’d often watch services on television broadcast from Rome.
When she wasn’t watching a church service, she was likely watching her “stories” (soap operas) or rooting for her beloved Philadelphia Eagles and Notre Dame Fightin’ Irish football teams. But, she would never mince words when she was displeased with their performance.
She also enjoyed several international trips during her lifetime, including adventures in Jerusalem, Hungary and Italy, among others.
Family members will also fondly remember many Christmas Days spent at Ronnie’s. She prepared a feast of foods reflecting her Eastern European heritage, from halupki to kiffles, and sang along to Christmas carols performed by her nephews.
She is survived by a sister, Magdalene Malone, of Bryn Mawr; nephews Joseph Janci, Jack (JoAnne) Janci , and James (Linda) Janci, Joseph (Norma) Hudy, Barry Hudy, Stephen Molnar; nieces Donna (David) Rivera, Connie Hudy, Peggy Barry, Barbara Sales; as well as Gloria (Barry) Kreider; and their families and many cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by five sisters, Rose Molnar, Anna Tumulty, Elizabeth Piper, Irma Hudy and Margaret Janci; and three brothers, Julius, Jr.(Mae), Joseph (Lorraine), and Alfred (Helen) Hudy.
Her family would like to give special thanks to her end-of-life caregivers.
