On January 1st, one of our community’s beloved servants, William A. Spencer, passed away at the age of 51. His death touches many people who knew Will through his extensive roles helping others. Most notably, Will served in the Lopatcong Police Department for over twenty years. He was a member of fire departments in both Phillipsburg area and Seaside Heights, NJ. He was an EMT in both the Phillipsburg emergency squad and with Triboro Rescue in Seaside. Through his roles as both mayor and councilman in Greenwich, NJ, Will loved making the lives of others better. A man who was always ready to lend a hand, he was an active volunteer in many organizations such as the Garnet Booster Club, Harmony Lions Club, and Lopatcong Youth Sports. Among his many jobs in the community, he was the owner of both Spencer Lawn Care and Warren Septic Services, as well as working at Finegan Funeral Homes. A frequent recipient of recognitions, he achieved both an EMS Star of Life Award and a Warren County certificate of commendation for saving the life of another person. Through all he did, people in our community felt his kind heart, generous spirit and his fun-loving personality.
During his high school days at Phillipsburg, Will was member of the 1988 team that played in ESPN’s first nationally televised high school football game. He then continued his love of football playing at Kutztown University and was a graduate of the Ocean County Police Academy. Will is the loving father of Emma and Sophie, devoted husband of Tracy, brother of Jarrod and Travis and son of Bill & Rose Marie Spencer.
There will be no calling hours. A public funeral mass will be on Saturday January 6th at 10:30 AM at St. Phillips and James Church on South Main Street in Phillipsburg. Immediately after the mass, the public is welcome to attend the burial at St. Phillips and James cemetery on route 519 & 22 in Phillipsburg.
