Barbara Ann Devine Sweeney

Barbara Ann Devine Sweeney, 85, of Palmer Twp., Pa., passed away peacefully at home in her sleep on Friday, October 14, 2022.

She was born on August 23, 1937 in Coffeyville, Kansas and moved from New York to Easton, Pa. in September 1978. She is preceded in death by her husband John Laurence Sweeney, son Sean Laurence Sweeney, her parents, John Paul Devine and Kathryn Davis Devine, her brothers, Thomas Eugene Devine and Paul Francis Devine.

The Greatest loves of her life were her late husband, Jack Sweeney, whom she married on June 25, 1966 and who went to heaven on June 9, 2010 and her beautiful children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.

She was very fond of gardening, working on her genealogy and reading mystery stories; also chocolate milk and chewing gum. Earlier in life she worked in Chicago for a brokerage firm and she modeled. She embraced her career as a wife and mother and returned to work during the 90’s at BOC Gases. In the summertime she was always in her garden planting flowers, enjoying the hummingbirds, butterflies and pulling weeds.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Denis Sweeney and wife, Charlene of Nazareth, PA; Timothy Sweeney of Palmer, PA; daughters, Kathryn DiGirolamo Sweeney and husband Salvatore of Palmer, PA; Julia Race Sweeney and husband Darin of Palmer, PA; grandchildren, Brendan Sweeney; Felicia Oren, Brianna, Bridget, Erin Anthony DiGirolamo and Finula Sweeney; great-grandchild, Karter Hooks. Aunt Dorothy Devine and Aunt Nancy Devine.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022 from 6P.M. to 8P.M. at The Finegan Funeral Home, 4080 William Penn Highway, Palmer Twp., Pa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 10:30A.M. at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 4049 Hartley Ave., Palmer Twp., PA. Interment will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Barbara may be made to the church.
