Edward Samuel Smith
Edward Samuel Smith (Smitty) passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at LVHN Hecktown Oaks.
Ed was born in Phillipsburg, NJ at Warren Hospital on April 27, 1945. He was the son of the late Harold W. and Helen A. Ehasz Smith.
He was employed by H. P. Kinsey and Bath Supply plumbing supply houses.
Ed was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School. He was active in JV and Varsity sports (notably basketball). He also attended DeSales University for college courses.
He played softball for Jersey Hose and other teams. He was on the Nazareth High School Lady Blue Eagles coaching staff. He played quoits for the Easton Quoit League and the Fireman’s League. He played basketball for various teams at Eddyside and Delaware Valley. He also coached Special Olympics basketball.
He was a member of St. Rocco’s and St. Mary’s parishes.
He is survived by his wife Carol A. Parrish Smith, a brother Harold Smith Jr. (wife Patty and children Dana, Matthew, and Zachary), sister Beverly Fretz (children Jami, Bruce, Gari, Jobi, and Gig (deceased)), and cousins Ronald and Debbie Sherrer, Jimmy Miller, Sharon and Tommy Frick, Betty Jane McCarthy, Joanne Brown, and David Sherrer.
Viewing hours will be held on Thursday December 22, 2022 from 1 to 3 pm at the Finegan Funeral Home, 924 Second Ave., Alpha, NJ and on Friday December 23rd, 2022 from 9 to 9:50 am at St. Philip & St. James Catholic Church, 430 S. Main St., Phillipsburg, NJ. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10 am. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Alpha, NJ.
