Kathleen “Kay” M. Thompson, peacefully passed from this world on June 21, 2022, at her residence after battling a long illness. Kay was a lifelong resident of Phillipsburg and a graduate of Phillipsburg High School and Bloomfield College in Bloomfield, NJ. During her years at Phillipsburg High School, she was a popular cheerleader, class officer and involved with many activities. She was employed by the Warren County Welfare Department and worked in the positions of case worker, social worker and supervisor until her early retirement at the age of 55.
Kay is survived by her sons JT Thompson, wife Kim, Heath Thompson, fiancé Kelly Ellis, sister Linda Lehr, husband Robert, grandsons, Joseph, Jimmy, Heath and granddaughters, Phoebe, Hazel and partner Art Russo. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Masterson, Jr.
The hallmark of Kay’s life was her close relationship with her family and friends. She was a loyal and dedicated family member and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
She was especially noted in her life for her spirit, character and compassion. Kay had the capacity to achieve anything in life, but her passion involved raising her sons and assisting in the upbringing of her grandchildren as she remained active in all phases of their lives. Kay has lived her life with understated grace and poise and without being aware she was a role model for the community. She had a heart of gold and placed the wellbeing of her friends and family above her own. Kay enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and was never concerned or impressed with status and wealth. She was an extremely, kind, loving, gentle and peaceful person. She especially enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday and spent the entire year preparing for a family feast. She was beautiful inside and out and to know Kay Thompson was to love her. She will be missed dearly, but we are grateful for the time we had to spend with her and will always feel her presence in our hearts. Kay provided those she loved with memories of sunshine to last a lifetime.
Funeral arrangements were private, but the family intends to schedule a celebration of life in the near future so that all of Kay’s friends and family can join in reminiscing about the life of Phillipsburg native who has touched so many in the community. Donations may be made in honor and memorial to Kay to the Firth Youth Center in Phillipsburg, NJ.
