He was born on May 17, 1947 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the parents of Carl and Reba Grunwald. He is survived by his wife Marcia Grunwald, son Craig Grunwald, daughter Lisa Rand, brothers Carl and Stephen Grunwald, and cousin John Siegrist.
Richard graduated from Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science in 1969. He spent his career in textile management in New York City. In his retirement, he worked with the Lehigh Valley Golf Association where he greatly enjoyed working with junior golfers.
Outside of work, Richard was an avid golfer. He taught his son the game and was greatly passionate about the sport. He was also a diehard Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan, and tolerated his wife and daughter’s love of the New York Yankees.
Richard was a lover of food, particularly Italian food and his mother’s German potato salad and graham cracker cream pie. He loved the symphony (more so than the ballet); watching Jeopardy with his wife, especially when he would get the answer to “Final Jeopardy;” his dogs Heather, Pepper, and Gigli; spending time with his family in Hilton Head, South Carolina; and traveling with his wife.
He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, cousin, and uncle, he was loved in return by his family and friends for his love of life, love of people, lightheartedness, and goofy sense of humor. He always laughed, and it was great to be around him.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the Finegan Funeral Home at 302 Heckman Street in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, from 2-4 & 6-8pm.
