Robert (Bob) Gebhard

Robert (Bob) Gebhard, 91, of Phillipsburg, New Jersey died Thursday, December 14th with his loving wife Blanche by his side. Bob was born on October 27th, 1932 to Grace (Etter) Gebhard and Walter P. Gebhard. He was one of eight brothers & sisters, Walter, William, Richard, Jim, Tom, Betty and Jean.

Bob joined the US Marine Corp in 1950 and served during the Korean War. He was proud to be a Marine and received several medals for his service. After the war he worked for many years as a computer programmer in those early days when one computer took up an entire room. Later he taught programming at North Hunterdon High School and then worked for and retired from the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission.

Bob was a kind and gentle man. He laughed easily and carried a quote in his wallet that reads, "Never miss a good chance to shut up." (Will Rogers) He enjoyed taking care of the neighborhood cats, watching any comedy and tending to the roses in the backyard.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Blanche (Flynn) Gebhard, his daughter Susan, her husband, Andy Bates and grandson Andrew, sisters-in-law, Mary Lily and Patricia Flynn and too many nieces and nephews to name. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 10:00 am at St. Philip & St. James Catholic Church, 430 So. Main Street in Phillipsburg, NJ. The interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, also in Phillipsburg. The Finegan Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
