Yola Marinelli

Yola Marinelli, 84, of Lopatcong Twp., NJ, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her 5 children.  Born on March 25, 1936, in Phillipsburg, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Carmine and Mary (Marsullo) Angelozzi.

Yola graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1953.  After high school, she worked at Ingersoll Rand.  While a bridesmaid at her friend’s wedding, she met the man she would spend the next 64 years with and raise 5 children.  As great as she was a mom, she was an even better Nonnie to her 6 grandsons whom she adored.

Yola left Ingersoll to raise her children and after many years of being a stay-at-home mom, she went back to work in the cafeteria at Lopatcong Township Elementary School where she eventually retired as the manager.  Just like her kids, the faculty at the school loved her cooking and looked forward to her chili and meatballs.

Yola was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Over 50s Club, AARP and a past president of the Lopatcong Township Elementary School PTA for which she was given an award.  She enjoyed painting ceramics which can still be seen throughout her house.  She was a die-hard NY Mets fans who couldn’t wait for the season to start each year.  Her greatest talent outside of raising children was her Italian cooking.  She loved feeding her family and anyone else who stopped by the house.

She is survived by her 5 children: Brian Marinelli, Marisa Marinelli and husband Brad Mulder, Lisa Marinelli and husband Bill Winger, Lynne Martoccio and husband Darrell, and Michele Marinelli as well as 6 grandsons: Adam Marinelli; Nicholas Mulder; Brandon Winger; Matthew, Daniel and Lucas Martoccio. She is also survived by her brother, Nick Angelozzi (Sue) and brothers-in-law Ronald Marinelli and Art Marinelli (Duane) as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased in October 2020 by her husband, Enzo Marinelli, with whom she celebrated 64 years of marriage on June 23, 2020.  In addition, she was predeceased by 3 brothers and sisters-in-law: Gino, Harry and Bill Angelozzi.

Viewing hours will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 3 to 6pm at The Finegan Funeral Home, 302 Heckman St., Phillipsburg, NJ.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 10 am in the Mercy Hall of St. Philip & St. James Catholic Church, 430 S. Main St., Phillipsburg, NJ. Entombment will be in the parish mausoleum in Greenwich Twp., NJ.
