MaryEllen McWhirter

MaryEllen McWhirter passed away peacefully on April 10th, 2023.

MaryEllen taught at St. James Academy in Solano Beach, CA, for several years and kept in touch with and mentored many of her students as they grew into adulthood. After teaching, she worked at Joann's Fabric where her love for sewing and quilting grew. She ran her own tutoring business and many people owe her thanks for their excellent SAT scores in English. She also taught sewing lessons to both young and adult students from her home in San Diego, CA. 

MaryEllen was an avid Padres fan and, as anyone who knew her could tell you, absolutely loved her cats. Her beautiful flower watercolor artwork hangs in houses all over the east and west coasts of the US, and even one house in Ireland.

MaryEllen is survived by her sister Carol Swavely, her brother Charles Erdo and his wife Loretta, her nieces Kateri Swavely-Verenna and her husband Thomas, Karen Troxell and husband Corey, Kristin Bigness and her husband John McCartney, Jessica Bigness and her husband Adam Mejerson, Lori and her husband Chris Word, and Jennifer and her husband Coty Casterlin, and her nephews Andrew Swavely and wife Kasia and James C. Swavely.

A Calling Period is scheduled for Wednesday, May 17, 2023, from 9:30 to 10:15 AM, at the St. Jane Frances de Chantal Church, 4049 Hartley Avenue, Easton, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 AM. The inurnment will then be at Gethsemane Cemetery, Easton, PA.
