Thomas John Fey

Thomas John Fey, 74, of Alpha, NJ, passed away unexpectedly and went home to be with his loving wife, Patricia, on Saturday, December, 23, 2023.

Born on August 6, 1949, in Phillipsburg, NJ, he was the son of the late William C. and Eleanor (Mainhart) Fey.

Thomas was raised in Alpha, NJ and a graduate of Phillipsburg High School. Shortly after High School, Tom served in the United States Marine Corps, until his discharge in 1971. Tom returned to Alpha, NJ where he began his long career at Ingersoll-Rand and where he raised his family. He was a dedicated member of the Alpha Volunteer Fire Company for nearly 50 years and continued to be an esteemed contributor for fundraising over several years. Tom was a very active member of the American Legion Post #446 of Alpha, where he served for 51 years. He has held several positions in the American Legion including Post #446 Commander as well as Warren County Commander. Tom served on the Alpha Public School Board for over 10 years, served on Alpha Borough Town Council for many years and was elected Mayor of Alpha for two four-year terms stemming from 1992-2000. After his Mayorship, Tom’s contribution to the community didn’t end, and he continued to be involved up to the present, including being Chairman of the Planning Board and Alpha’s Recycling Coordinator.

Tom loved his family dearly and especially loved spending time with them outdoors and was an avid hunter in his younger years. Tom’s true passion was fishing and he especially enjoyed the many times traveling to Canada with his brothers on their yearly fishing trip; as well as spending time up at his fishing cabin with his family and friends. Tom was a diehard Phillies and Eagles fan. He spent many years coaching football and baseball for the Alpha Youth Athletic program. Tom was a devoted alumni of Phillipsburg High School where he treasured going to nearly every home football game and wrestling match through the years. Tom loved his garden and the place he called home on East Blvd where he resided for over 45 years. 

Thomas is survived by his sons; Jeffrey Fey and his wife Diana, of Milford, NJ, Kevin Fey and his wife, Melissa, of Easton, PA and Brandon Fey and his wife, Rachel, of Altrincham, Cheshire, UK, his grandchildren; Madison, Mikayla, Hannah, Annabelle, Jordan and his wife, Alicia and Kylie and her partner, Shane, his great-grandchildren, Alaina and Jordan, Jr., his brothers, Donald Fey and his wife, Janet and Charles Fey and his wife, Joan; his sister Diane and many nieces and nephews. Along with his wife and parents, Thomas was predeceased by his brothers, Bernard Fey and Thomas "Timothy" Mainhart.

A Viewing is scheduled for Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Finegan Funeral Home, 924 Second Avenue, Alpha, NJ, with an additional Viewing Hour from 8:00 to 9:00 AM on Friday morning, January 5, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial will then follow at 10:00 AM at Saint Mary Church, 830 5th Ave, Alpha, NJ. The interment is to be held at the Saint Mary Cemetery, Alpha, NJ.
