Suzanne Marie (Whyte) Kennedy

Our beloved mother, Suzanne Marie (Whyte) Kennedy, 77, of Easton, Pennsylvania (formerly LeRoy, NY and Toronto, Ontario) passed away peacefully on August 6, 2023 with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with dementia. She was born September 2, 1945, in Toronto, to Anne M. (Sadler) and James E. (Ted) Whyte, the eldest of three children. Mom attended St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in Toronto. She worked for Catholic Children’s Aid Society in Toronto.

On October 12, 1968 she married John (Jack) D. Kennedy and they moved to Rochester, NY to start their new life together. Mom worked for Xerox as a secretary until she retired to stay home and raise their two children. Once her own kids were school age, she provided at home childcare for other children.  She then went back to night school to learn computers and mastered word processing, spreadsheets and data entry which led to other work opportunities for her in the community.

Mom fiercely loved her family, reminding us frequently “I love my kids”. If it’s possible, she loved her grandsons even more.  She enjoyed baking, crocheting and shopping.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, Anne and Ted Whyte; her in-laws Edith and William Kennedy and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Audrey and William Kennedy. She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years Jack Kennedy, by her children Shannon Rutherford (Noel), Sean Kennedy (Laura), her grandsons Nick and Jack Rutherford, her sister Mo Whyte (Maureen), her brother Robert Whyte (Sally), her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marilyn and Julien Quesnelle and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Mass and burial of Christian Rite will be held at the family’s convenience.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute to your local Hospice Care or the Alzheimer’s Association.
